“I find inspiration in nature and within other artist's work such as the work of
Mondrian, Richard La Londe, Calder, and Japanese brush painters. A simple
flower or a turning leaf moves me. The bamboo outside my window swaying in the
breeze entrances me. Passion for design is the basis for my work; working in
glass allows me to bring the designs to life through color and form.”
Art has been a long time interest for her. While her education took her to the
corporate arena for 12 years as a computer programmer, her interest in the arts
never waned. Her background is far from art, but she has loved art since she
was given her first can of Play-doh at the age of three. Her bachelor's degree
from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo is in Statistics and her Art minor focused on
clay and art history.
It was during a vacation on the central coast of California that she was able to
finally begin creating artwork. She was introduced to beaded jewelry on that
vacation and within a year, Mique Designs was born. Within two years, she was
taking classes on how to fuse glass. By her third year she had her own line of
kiln formed glass art, and she was winning awards.
In 2006, she co-founded the Southern California Glass Guild for Los Angeles and
Orange Counties. She became the guild's first president in 2007. She is also an
active member in the Precious Metal Clay guild of Los Angeles, and the Orange
County Fine Arts Group.
